Examinations and assessment

An examination is only as good as an institution's ability to defend it: to a student who asks for re-evaluation, to a regulator, or to a court. That means secure papers, fair conduct, consistent evaluation and a record of every step.

We run the full exam cycle, online and at centres, from question bank to published result. Online proctoring uses edge-offload AI with in-house models, so the analysis runs largely on the candidate's device and there is no dependence on a third-party AI service. Every action, from paper setting to the last re-evaluation, is logged on the same student record.

The problem we solve

Exam cells are where the strain shows first. Question papers are emailed as attachments and printed in a local shop. Online exams depend on a proctoring tool that sends video to servers abroad and flags half the candidates for looking away. Coding tests ask for one function in one file, which says little about whether a student can build software. OMR sheets are scanned by a vendor nobody has audited, results are compiled in spreadsheets, and the re-evaluation queue runs for months with no record of who changed which mark. When a paper leaks or a result is challenged, the institution cannot show what happened.

What you have at the end

  • A secure question bank with controlled access, version history and blueprint-based paper generation
  • Online exams proctored with in-house AI and human review, with candidate data processed under the DPDP Act
  • Coding assessments that test real multi-file projects, not single functions
  • Evaluation through OMR and on-screen marking, with moderation and a full mark-change audit trail
  • Results published on time, with credits posted to ABC and a time-bound re-evaluation workflow
  • Paper delivery to centres that is encrypted, time-released and logged

Scope of service

01

Proctored online exams at scale, using edge-offload AI with in-house models and no third-party AI dependency

Candidates take exams in a locked browser while in-house AI models watch for impersonation, additional people, devices and suspicious behaviour. The heavy analysis runs on the candidate's own device (edge offload), which keeps server load and bandwidth low on exam day and keeps video off third-party AI services. Flags go to trained human reviewers, so no candidate is penalised on a machine's judgement alone. Notices and consent for proctoring data follow the DPDP Act, including parental consent for candidates under 18.

Deliverables

  • Secure exam browser with identity check at start
  • Edge-offload AI proctoring with in-house models
  • Human review queue and a written decision for every flag
  • Proctoring data retention and deletion per your policy
  • Exam-day command centre and candidate help desk
02

Multi-file coding assessments

Candidates work in a full development environment with multiple files, folders and dependencies, the way real software is built, rather than filling in a single function. Submissions are run against automated test suites and can be reviewed by faculty for code quality. This suits computer science programmes, placement assessments and skill certification alike.

Deliverables

  • Browser-based multi-file coding environment
  • Support for the languages and frameworks agreed for the programme. A fixed list is not published on this page.
  • Automated test-case evaluation with partial credit
  • Faculty review view and plagiarism checks across submissions
03

Question-bank management

Questions are authored, reviewed, tagged by syllabus unit, Bloom's level and difficulty, and stored in an access-controlled bank with full version history. Papers are generated against a blueprint, so each paper covers the syllabus as intended. Who saw or changed which question is always recorded.

Deliverables

  • Question bank with role-based access and version history
  • Tagging by course outcome, unit, Bloom's level and difficulty
  • Blueprint-based paper generation with parallel sets
  • Moderation workflow for paper setters and reviewers
04

Centre-based exam operations

For exams held in halls and labs, we plan centres, allocate seats, issue admit cards, manage invigilators and run attendance with identity checks. Centres can be monitored through CCTV and a live dashboard on exam day. Incidents are logged at the centre, not reconstructed from memory afterwards.

Deliverables

  • Centre planning and seat allocation
  • Admit cards with photo and QR verification
  • Invigilator allocation, training and duty records
  • Exam-day attendance and incident logging
05

OMR and on-screen evaluation (OSM)

Objective answer sheets are scanned and read with OMR, with exceptions checked by people. Descriptive scripts are scanned and marked on screen by evaluators against a model answer, with marks totalled automatically and moderation built in. Evaluators see the script, not the student's identity, and every mark is logged.

Deliverables

  • OMR sheet design, scanning and reading with exception review
  • Script scanning with anonymised barcodes
  • On-screen marking with model answers and automatic totalling
  • Moderation and second-evaluation rules
  • Evaluator performance and consistency reports
06

Result processing and re-evaluation workflow

Marks flow into result processing under your ordinances, including grace marks, grading, CGPA and moderation rules, and results are checked before publication. Students apply for re-totalling, photocopies or re-evaluation online, and each request moves through a time-bound workflow with every change recorded. Final credits and results are posted to ABC and certificates issued to DigiLocker/NAD.

Deliverables

  • Result processing configured to your ordinances and grading rules
  • Pre-publication validation reports
  • Online re-totalling, script access and re-evaluation requests
  • Mark-change audit trail and request tracking
  • ABC credit posting and DigiLocker/NAD issuance
07

Secure paper delivery

Question papers travel to centres encrypted and are released only at a set time before the exam, with each decryption and print logged by centre and person. Paper copies can be watermarked per centre so a leak can be traced. This removes the courier van and the photocopy shop from your risk list.

Deliverables

  • Encrypted paper distribution to centres
  • Time-locked release with logged access
  • Centre-specific watermarking for traceability
  • Leak response protocol

Entrance tests and NSDC/NCVET skill certification

We run institutional entrance tests from registration to merit list, and provide the platform and operations for skill assessments in programmes aligned with NSDC and NCVET frameworks. Skill assessments include theory, practical and viva components, with evidence captured for each candidate. Certification itself is issued by the recognised awarding body; we do not claim to be one. NCVET or sector skill council recognition for Bit2Bit or its partners is not stated on this page.

Deliverables

  • Entrance test registration, admit cards, conduct and merit lists
  • Skill assessment platform with theory, practical and viva evidence
  • Assessor allocation and evidence capture
  • Result files in the format the awarding body requires

How an engagement runs

  1. 01

    Review your exam cycle

We read your examination ordinances and map the current cycle step by step: paper setting, conduct, evaluation, results and re-evaluation, noting where it is slow or exposed.

  2. 02

    Configure to your rules

The platform is set up to your ordinances, grading scheme and calendar. We change our configuration to match your rules, not the other way round.

  3. 03

    Pilot

We start with a mock exam and one real exam, such as an internal assessment or a single programme, before taking on a full end-semester cycle.

  4. 04

    Run exam seasons

Our exam operations team works with your controller of examinations through each season, with a command centre on exam days.

  5. 05

    Close and review

After each cycle you get a report on conduct, incidents, evaluation consistency, result timelines and re-evaluation outcomes, with improvements for the next one.

Who this is for

Regulations covered

Questions, answered

Where does proctoring video go?

Most of the analysis happens on the candidate's own device, and what is stored is kept in India for the period your policy sets, then deleted. No video is sent to a third-party AI service. Candidates are told what is collected and why before they start.

Will the AI fail students automatically?

No. The AI raises flags; trained people review them, and your institution decides any action under its own rules. Every decision is recorded so it can be explained if a student challenges it.

What happens if a candidate's internet drops mid-exam?

The service is designed so answers can be saved on the device and synced when the connection returns, and so the exam can resume within limits set for that examination. Outages are logged so the exam cell can decide on any extension. Those limits are not published as a single figure on this page.

Can you run exams for our affiliated colleges too?

Yes. Centre-based operations, secure paper delivery and on-screen evaluation are designed for universities with many affiliated colleges, with the university keeping control of papers, marks and results.

Are online exams valid for UGC online degrees?

UGC rules for online programmes allow examinations to be conducted online with technology-based proctoring, subject to the conditions in the regulations and your own ordinances. We configure the exams to those conditions and keep the records UGC expects. Current proctoring conditions are checked against the notified text before an examination is configured; they are not restated as a fixed list on this page. See UGC.

Whose track record is the scale figure on this page?

The scale figure was delivered through our technology partners, whose platform and experience we build on. We state it that way deliberately and do not present it as Bit2Bit's own track record.
